SOS Children’s Villages Port Elizabeth views the health and well-being of our children as a priority. Often, these most vulnerable children when they first arrive in our Village are in a habitual lack of care state, usually under nourished and lack adequate safe food. Very often there are health issues that need to be addressed, and clinic or doctors’ visits for a full medical is required. We always take baseline measurements on arrival, noting weight and height, and in babies their head circumference. We then make sure that we address their nutritional needs from the very first day. We were very grateful to a group of Dietetics master’s students from the Nelson Mandela University who, at the end of last year, shared with us their research thesis on nutritional meal plans drawn up specifically for Child and Youth Care Centres. We will be workshopping this information with our Child and Youth Care Workers this month, after which we will help them to draw up appropriate and nutritional menus for the week. We also are committed to weighing and measuring our children every 6 months in order to monitor their growth and development and to improve the nutritional status of our children. We want to thank KFC for the integral part that they play in our children’s nutrition and development.
PMB KFC Story “I will forever be grateful to SOS Children’s Villages for the ongoing support and assistance provided to me, for making me reach my potential. ‘This is a quote from Zothani Zondi, a 19 year old young man from the community of France in Pietermaritzburg, KZN. Zondi is one of the proud beneficiaries of the SOS CV programme. He started benefitting since 2012, after losing both parents. He was left with his maternal granny who was also deceased. His uncle, who was only 19 years old, took care of him. SOS CV programme ensured that all his necessities were well taken care of. This includes educational, health and nutrition in a form of food parcel on a monthly basis. This enabled Zothani to have a well-balanced diet, which made him to develop and grow healthy. Furthermore, to have a healthy mind which assisted him to complete his basic education in 2019 with a Bachelor pass from a local high school. His dream is to become an independent responsible man. Early this year, he enrolled for Travel and Tourism Diploma from a Durban institution of Higher Learning. He is looking forward to the new beginning of his tertiary studies. SOS CV is still with him in realising his dream.
We feed needy children every day .... But on a Monday morning, we become acutely more aware of how hungry and needy our children we really are... Some of our children eat their last meal on a Friday afternoon at school, and go home, a home that does not have any food ... We see these same children eat 3 some 4 plates of cereal on a Monday morning because there was nothing to eat and no one to supply ...
KFC is really caring, feeding children living with disabilities accepting them and showing them that they are loved.

KFC add hope has been running in our centre from 2018 we are really grateful for their help because we cater children who are on medication they need to be feed regularly and this really will help our community to love and accept them
